While this story is not going to be as good as the one you pointed out, Myrtle Beach should most definitely win. The show in South Carolina was a first for Modest Mouse, prior to this show we in South Carolina had to travel far and wide to see them live. Compared to past trips, anywhere in South Carolina was a walk, or drive, in the park as far a trip time goes. As a fan for years before this show, it was something amazing to be able to meet everyone that came out from the tour buses; I left the show shaking because of meeting you guys. I sincerely hope that Myrtle Beach should win because of the quality of the show, the quality of the performers, of course, and because of the atmosphere of the crowd.
Myrtle Beach is by far one of the overall trashiest spots in South Carolina, ask any native and they will explain the same thing. When it was announced that Modest Mouse would be coming to Myrtle Beach it truly took intestinal fortitude to brave the city of Myrtle Beach. Overall a small price to pay for wonderful night, but nevertheless worth mentioning. Myrtle Beach simply reeks of cheap booze, past spring breaks, and touristism; all things that are not especially the favorite things of too many fans, well except for maybe the cheap booze. Myrtle Beach and it’s suburban bleeding down the coast to towns such as Georgetown and Charleston are simply ruining the historic and native aspects to both towns. In short, Modest Mouse speaks about such things in many of their songs and in interviews given namely by Isaac.
In an ironic sort of way, it was fitting that Modest Mouse should choose to play their first show in Myrtle Beach instead of some “hipster” town like Charleston or Columbia. Both Charleston and Columbia would have been equally great shows but for them to play in Myrtle Beach it shows that: they did not care about location, it’s all for the music, and, that anyone, even Ohioans down for summer vacation, can and should indulge in some great Modest Mouse. By playing in Myrtle Beach, it was shown that music stands far above whatever social groups, states, or prior music cliques that people were a part of, Modest Mouse does not care, dance and have fun. Playing in Myrtle Beach was in no way “selling out,” that’s just stupid to think.
The show in Myrtle Beach was simply amazing and I will forever remember that night. In a decently sized venue, packed wall to wall, and all of us dancing, there is no way that Myrtle Beach was a bad show. Isaac’s finger got split open, only to be fixed with SuperGlue, and what better way to let that dry than to play “Good Times.” Simply by getting hurt and then playing “Good Times” it was a sort of representation of the attitude that this song has. There are simply few words to describe how much fun the audience were having and how much fun it seemed that the band was having. Eric was having a great time and Isaac, as usual, was giving some attitude to the audience, all of us loving it every second. The show as great, enough said.
After the show the bands that played, a certrain photographer, and the fans all got to interact outside the taped off area. A few people got to take pictures with Isaac, most everyone that wanted to got to shake his hand and say a few things and, not to diminish the importance in any way of the other band members, but we also got to hang out with them for a bit. Of course you all could have gone into the buses and sat around waiting to leave, but you guys instead came out and spoke with us and showed that you wanted to hear what we had to say. By no means was Modest Mouse’s performance at Rostrover inferior, it was simply that Myrtle Beach was unforgettably wonderful for South Carolina. Thank you so much for all that you do Pat.
Hahaha Aubre got the best comment! GOOD FOR YOU GIRL!
Rostraver beats Myrtle Beach in my family any day and Pat knows why.
